Who we are
Up until the year 2000, Mr. Belin’s involvement with non-profits was through his law practice and as a member of a number of national boards. A major part of his law practice was focused on providing family and other foundations with legal advice on a regular basis. This work involved both corporate and tax counseling, and assisting foundations through a variety of regulatory disputes with both state and federal regulatory authorities.
An added dimension of Mr. Belin’s law practice was in the representation of grant-receiving non-profits, particularly universities, museums and other cultural institutions. At the same time, Mr. Belin served as an active participant on boards of trustees of both foundations and grant-receiving organizations, in several instances as head of the board or of key board committees.
In 2000, Mr. Belin left the practice of law to form Belin Associates. Initially the firm’s clients were both foundations and grant-receiving organizations. Increasingly, its work has been on behalf of family foundations. That work is now the principal focus of the firm’s activity.
Mr. Belin directs every project that the firm undertakes and is personally involved with each project on a daily basis. Outside expertise is called in when necessary. The firm has at its disposal a roster of exceptionally qualified individuals with a broad range of expertise.
